She had just moved 3,000 miles away to attend Westminster Choir College in New Jersey. She had been on campus for exactly 1 day when she was introduced to Ben in the campus commons. Ben recalls Jaclyn’s flowy skirt & green knit hat in great detail, but it was her inviting smile that wouldn’t leave his mind. He instantly claimed “dibs” to his pals at the table, and then he pursued.
They began spending time together in a search for an audition song for the campus a capella group. But Jaclyn wasn’t looking for a boyfriend. Despite this fact, Ben knew what he wanted–and he persisted. Jaclyn allowed him in on numerous “coloring dates”–you know, with crayons and good ol’ color-in-the-lines coloring books. Ben might not have been into coloring, but he was definitely into Jaclyn. Coloring dates turned into meals in the cafeteria and hanging out together every night, often talking far past Jaclyn’s bed time. After Ben patiently persisted through crayons and lunchroom dates for 6 months, Jaclyn wanted to make it official, too. It wasn’t just his beard, closet full of flannel shirts or his ability to shovel REAL snow that made her fall for Ben…it was Ben allowing her to be herself and showing her a view of the world she had never seen before–the view through Ben’s eyes.
I’m just gonna come out and say it–Nate and I want to double marriage these two. Whatever that means. We just like them to New Jersey and back! I’m not sure if it was Jaclyn’s giddy “I’M GETTING MARRIED!” dance or Ben busting out goofy songs on the banjo, but they drew deep laughs from our bellies. Jaclyn & Ben–congratulations!!!! We couldn’t be more excited for two people. You guys=awesome. In Ben’s own words, “Hugs all around.” :) –A & N
